The Premiere of the new TV series THE GATES debuted Sunday June 20, 2010 on ABC.
In the “Pilot” Episode 1: Nick Monohan, the new police chief, moves his family into their new home in The Gates, an exclusive gated upper-class community. Immediately, there is a missing persons report to investigate on Nick's first day on the job.
It seems one of Nick's neighbors has an awful secret. Claire Radcliff (Rhona Mitra) is a vampire with a thirst for fresh blood, despite the fact that she and her vampire hubby bottle their own supply and keep it in the wine seller. Forced to cover up her moment of weakness, and a dead body, Claire must deal with her angry hubby as well as another neighbor who knows too much. Meanwhile, teenage Charlie Monohan finds a new potential girlfriend at school, Andie Bates, who is already dating jealous jock Brett.
In Episode 2, “What Lies Beneath,” (June 27 2010), Nick investigates the death of the last Chief of Police, disturbed by what he's starting to discover about The Gates. Claire Radcliff deals with the repercussions from her recent transgression, fighting to put the past behind her. At school, Andie struggles to sort out her blossoming feelings for Charlie. And Brett works hard to keep dating Andie while fighting off Lukas' tempting offer to "come running."
In Episode 3, “Breach,” (July 11 2010) There's been a robbery at the McCallisters', setting off a series of similar mysterious robberies around town. Meanwhile Brett does his best to get his relationship back on track with Andie, though she still finds herself drawn to Charlie; Lukas encourages Brett to join the pack and blow off a little steam; Leigh is not herself when she loses an important package, and possibly her connection with Marcus; and Claire reunites with an old friend who questions her transformation to a humble housewife.
In Episode 4, "The Monster Within," (July 18 2010) A missing hunter casts unwanted attention on Brett and the pack, creating tension with Coach Ross. Meanwhile Nick and Dylan try to put their differences aside during The Gates Father/Daughter Dance, with mixed results; and Andie and Charlie’s relationship looks like it’s headed for smooth sailing, until an unexpected secret turns everything upside down.
In Episode 5, "Repurcussions," (July 25 2010) No sooner is Nick assailed with the revelation that vampires exist and are living inside The Gates, than he finds himself forced into an alliance with one. To complicate matters, Marcus begins an investigation into Teresa’s disappearance, bringing him dangerously close to uncovering the secret that Dylan and Nick share. Devon is brewing up some trouble of her own when she decides to let bygones be bygones and attend a party with her ex-husband and his new wife. Meanwhile, Andie is reeling from a recent discovery that threatens to stunt her budding relationship with Charlie. Unfazed and enamored, Charlie continues to pursue her, oblivious to the mortal danger he may face.

Episode 6, "Jurisdiction." (August 1 2010) When a neighbor is murdered inside The Gates at the hand of a vampire, Nick enlists Dylan’s help to find the killer. Sarah organizes a school fundraiser at Devon’s Spa, but finds it difficult to bring bickering factions together. Claire attempts to end her “arrangement” with Christian, only to find him more entrenched in her life than ever. Frustrated by the side effects, Andie stops taking her medicine and tries to control her symptoms, resulting in dire consequences for those around her.
Episode 7, "Digging the Dirt." (August 8 2010) Blackmailed by Frank Buckley, Nick and Dylan set out to dig up a secret on him that is equally damning; Sarah throws a pool party for the neighborhood women but tensions of the opposing factions spoil it; at school, Brett and Charlie still battle for Andie's affection; and Devon lures a victim from an online internet dating site.
Episode 8, "Dog Eat Dog." (August 15 2010)
Lukas’ father is attacked and hospitalized which creates a potential battle between Vampires and Werewolves, drawing in Nick who learns that there are other creatures living in the Gates besides vampires. Andie and Brett rekindle their relationship; Peg's daughter Mia learns majic spells from Devon; and Christian threatens to tell Dylan that he and Claire have been hunting together.
Episode 9, "Identity Crisis." (August 22 2010)
Dylan and Claire struggle with their marriage after Claire's activities with Christian come to light. FBI Agent Kat Russo arrives looking into a criminal investigation. Nick must keep her from learning the truth about the residents living within the Gates. It turns out, she is not who Nick thinks she is.
Episode 10, "Little Lost Girl. " (September 5 2010)
Outraged by Claire's rejection of him, Christian kidnaps her daughter, Emily. Dylan and Claire need Nick’s help to get her back, but he demands to know about the girl's "adoption" and why Christian would take her. Claire reveals she killed Emily's parents, who were drug addicts, and that the two vampires took the baby Emily to raise themselves. Nick tracks Christian and the girl to the original crime scene where Christian has left her with a relative, an aunt. Released from jail without reason, a startled Christian faces Claire who gets revenge.
Episode 11, "Surfacing." (September 12 2010) Nick’s nightmares become real as he must face his past deeds. Emily’s Aunt Nancy shows up at Dylan and Claire's house with a social worker to check out the Radcliffe home. Before they leave, Nancy asks to see the adoption papers. Sarah, who has been kept in the dark about the true nature of the neighbors, is drawn in by Nick's demon who uses her to attack Nick.
Episode 12, "Bad Moon Rising." (September 19 2010) Sarah finally discovers what her husband Nick has known all along, that residents of The Gates aren't human. Sarah turns to Devon, who has been manipulating her with a special tea brew - with deadly consequences. Andie and Charlie get together again, which causes a jealous Brett to resort to drastic measures.
Episode 12, "Moving Day." (September 19 2010) After the death of Vanessa and Frank, Nick and Sarah make a rush decision to get out of The Gates, but the plan upsets the kids. Charlie decides to run away with Andie. Brett then goes off in search of Andie before her Succubus side comes out. Dylan and Claire track down Devon, who is planning to destroy all the vampires. When Charlie falls into a deathly coma, Nick and Sarah are forced to turn to Devon. They may wish they hadn't...
Season 2?
October, 2010 update: ABC confirmed that the rumors were true. 'The Gates' is cancelled and there will not be a Season Two.
Here is one consulation though, actor Frank Grillo, who played Nick Monahan, revealed what was going to happen in the second season. From tvseriesfinale.com: with their son Charlie saved, Nick and Sarah Monahan decide to stay in the Gates community. However, Dylan and Claire (Rhona) Ratcliff separate to spend some time apart from each other. Leigh becomes head of the police force while Nick takes over the Gates Board and oversees the community.
