Rhona on the BP Oil Spill"I've been working in Louisiana since March of this year and obviously the spill happened and I as the rest of the world watched it all unfold. I think I wasn't as aware probably because of my youth of previous oil spills that took place like Exxon Valdez and I think as a result of being a more conscientious human being, it really sunk in what this meant globally, not just, oh this is happening in the gulf. So I signed up to volunteer on six different sites and help clean up with wildlife."~ Rhona Mitra in Louisiana Did you know Rhona was a vegan? Underworld: Rise of the LycansGreat Rhona interview at Suicidegirls.comRhona on her character in "Lycans": "Sonja charges out on her horse and kills wolves in the midst of the night and I think we really wanted to make sure that she looked like that. I wanted to make sure she looked like she was the capable "son" that Viktor never had, I suppose, because that's what she ends up being. She's more like the son that he never had, rather than a daughter. It was important to me that we didn't go the Xena: Warrior Princess route, which could have very easily happened." The program is about 25 minutes long. www.cinemajudge.com Posted: 29 March 08 Doomsday Does $4.9 million box office in it's opening weekend.![]() Marshall Compares Doomsday to Escape From New York"Any film where society's broken down, and you have to imagine what it was like to fend for yourself," is fun, "Doomsday" director Neil Marshall told the New York Daily News. "Our heroine, Eden Sinclair, was sort of inspired by Kurt Russell's Snake Plissken in 'Escape from New York.' And, by the way, we do have a cage match, a gladiator fight, with Rhona Mitra using lots of weapons." "Doomsday" (opening early 2008), will depict a plague which results in "Mad Max"-like situations and a tough road for sexy Rhona Mitra, a highly anticipated film in the new genre of hot heroines who save their world from extinction. "Global annihilation is back, and not a moment too soon," says Paul W.S. Anderson, writer/producer of the latest "Resident Evil: Extinction," who pays homage to the iconic Statue of Liberty scene in 1968's "Planet of the Apes" in his film. "I now give my childhood trauma to a new generation," Anderson told Justine Elias at the News. "Nowadays, it's actually a bad time to be a kid, if you're a worrier, what with global warming, terrorism and ecological disasters." So will the sexy Rhona survive? Says Marshall: "She could beat Charlton Heston and Mad Max, I think." Neil marshall talks Doomsday :
"It's like everything's been thrown into the mix," Marshall (The Descent) said in an interview at Comic-Con International in San Diego on July 28. "The basic story is, in present day, a virus starts, ... a new virus that nobody knows of, ... in Scotland and starts to wipe out the population of Scotland. And, as a last resort, they basically quarantine the entire country." The story of the movie, which stars Rhona Mitra, Malcolm McDowell and Bob Hoskins, picks up about 25 years later, when the virus has decimated Great Britain, and a band of survivors travels northward to find what they believe to be the last remaining inhabitants who may hold the cure. "What they find there is this sort of post-apocalyptic society," Marshall said. "When they go to Glasgow, there's this sort of street gang with marauders who've become this kind of cannibalistic kind of youth-oriented group. And then the further north they go, it's kind of like traveling back in time. They find this feudal society living in a castle; it's like knights in armor. And then it's like they've raided all the museums in the country." The movie also features much of Marshall's trademark gore and violence, including a scene in which a character is cooked alive and eaten. "I simply couldn't help myself," the soft-spoken director said. "It's not a horror film, but, as my makeup-effects supervisor said, ... 'You realize that there's more blood and guts in this than there is in Descent?' And I was like, 'Really?' And he said, 'Yeah. The only difference is it's not all in the last 20 minutes or whatever.' ... There's just tons of it. ... We've got exploding heads. We've got people getting their hands shot off. Lots of beheadings and people eviscerated and cooked alive, and there's lots of nasty stuff in there. But it's not a horror film." More on Doomsday Rhona and Hoskins in Doomsday
But as the shocked residents rubbed sleep from their eyes, it all became clear - the war zone on their doorstep was really the post-apocalyptic set of a £15 million blockbuster. Hollywood came to Haghill yesterday as filming began in Marwick Street for the sci-fi movie "Doomsday", set in Glasgow in 2033. And on the pavements of the East End community stood Bob Hoskins and Rhona Mitra. John Wilson, 32, of nearby Appin Road, got a shock when he woke up after a night out to see the view from his window. He said: "It was like wow, it's a war zone out there - it's so real! When I got the letter about it I couldn't believe it. I've probably got the best view. Zombie movies and sci-fi is my thing - to have it at the end of your street is amazing." One couple's home was right in the middle of the action, and the outside of George and Ann White's ground-floor flat was transformed. George said: "My wife passed the time of day with Bob Hoskins and a woman upstairs got a kiss from him. "Our dog Bruno was bemused - when I took him outside he was lost. It was as if he'd been taken somewhere else. It's a one-in-a-lifetime experience to see how a film is made. We'll definitely go to see it when it comes out." Residents had been warned not to be shocked to hear gun battles during the filming, which has been months in the planning and continues tomorrow night. They watched as a major scene involving a helicopter - simulated by a giant wind fan - was shot in the street. The film paints a grim portrait of a Scotland cut off from the rest of the world in the wake of a deadly virus. During a 30-year quarantine Scots scientists develop a cure for the disease but the victims have been forgotten by the rest of the world. Most of the film has been shot in Cape Town, South Africa.
